Douglas "Uncle Bullhorn" Berry passed away September 30, 2023, from interstitial lung disease complicated by COVID-19. He was a lifelong resident of the SF Bay Area, and had a love affair with the Traveller RPG universe since bringing home the original Little Black Books from a Pacificon in the late 70s. He had several publication credits in the universe to his name, starting with At Close Quarters from British Isles Traveller Support (co-written with James Lindsay) and most notably including GURPS: Traveller: Ground Forces. He also co-hosted several Travellers' Aid Society parties at BayCon in the early 2000s.

In later years, Doug turned from game design to other forms of writing. His final six months saw the beginning of a Patreon, where he published book reviews, personal essays, short fiction, and a series of posts on Why You Should Be Playing HârnMaster.

At Doug's memorial (held at the DoubleTree San Jose, in the function space known to much of local fandom as the Gaming Rooms), writer and fanzine publisher Chris Garcia told a story from the day after he won his first Hugo Award. "I shanghaied Doug and said 'Here, hold this. Get used to the weight of that…because there is no way in hell I am letting this Earth not have you as a Hugo winner.'"'
